“YES! We are a food band, and we would love to be known as a food band. In fact, I think we are much more comfortable cooking for an audience than playing music for an audience. Food is essential, no doubt about it. We tag team the house, when one of us is in the studio, the other is in the kitchen. We prefer simple healthy food, dark green vegetables, potatoes, nice cheese, good whole-grain bread, sweet ripe fruit, almonds, mushrooms, red wine. One of our favorite dishes is ‘hoppin’ John’ which is the good luck food of the south consisting of collard greens and black-eyed peas. Awesome. And Paul is the pie man.”
É esta a estranha definição que a banda faz dela própria. THE BOOKS são Paul de Jong e Nick Zammuto, dois vizinhos de Manhattan que fazem música juntos desde 2000. Têm um processo de gravação muito caseiro, gravam, escrevem e compõem os samples com software barato, e é exactamente com o formato que lhes saí das mãos que chega aos ouvintes.
Contam com 3 discos de originais, o último datado de 2005. Regressam em breve com o quarto álbum, que terá por título The Way Out, e que tem como primeiro avanço “A Cold Freezin’ Night”, um autêntico vício esta música!
